Want to know what home decor trends are “in” for 2023? Here is a list of the top interior design trends experts predict to be huge this year.
Since I’ve been home for winter break, basking in the last few days of 2022, I’ve been researching what home decor will be trending in 2023. According to interior designers, predictions include elements that will make your space feel exceptionally curated.
After all, people are spending more time at home than ever due to the pandemic, so it makes sense to intentionally create a home that one is excited to live in.
Interior design trends 2023 include bold statement pieces, such as heavily veined marble, and timeless elements like antique furniture.
This post is all about interior design trends for 2023.

1. 70’s Decor is Back in Style
The 1970s are making a huge comeback this year in the form of dark wood, smoked glassware, and funky-shaped furniture.
Now, you may be wondering, “Is wood paneling back??”
and the answer to that is yes.
Yes, it is indeed.
But with a modern twist. Instead of adorning our walls with the MDF, 2023 will bring us wood paneling made from real wood that is lighter and brighter than its ’70s counterpart.
Wood trim is also coming back in style, along with dark wood kitchen cabinets loaded with natural texture and grain.
Overall, 1970s interiors were characterized by bold colors, geometric shapes, and natural materials used to create a functional and visually appealing space, and the 2023 version will do the same.

2. Statement Marble is A BIG Interior Trend for 2023
Statement marble may be the kitchen trend I am most excited about for the upcoming year after seeing Kendal Jenner incorporate it into her home renovation.
Whether you like it or not, the Kardashians are known for trend forecasting. So naturally, when Kendalls’ home tour went live in Architectural Digest, I took notes.
Although her entire house is to die for, let me tell you: THAT KITCHEN IS STRAIGHT FLAMES.
The cabinets are a beautiful Benjamin Moore teal that looks very similar to this, but the countertops were heavily veined marble that created the perfect juxtaposition of drama and serenity.
Heavily veined countertops will add a unique and dramatic touch to any kitchen or bathroom. However, it is essential to remember that natural stone countertops, such as marble and granite, can be more porous and prone to staining and scratching than engineered materials, such as quartz. As such, they may require more maintenance and care to keep them looking their best.
I’ll let you know if that’s the case as soon as I get some.
As for now, I’ll simply incorporate this 2023 trend with this marble butter bell.

3. Interior Trends for 2023 Still Include Curved Furniture
Curved furniture showed up and showed out last year, and people ATE. IT. UP.
This is why it’s no surprise that the arched pieces will be even bigger this year, especially in living room furniture trends 2023.
This arched decor evokes that modern, it-girl aesthetic but at the same time, gives a nod to furniture designs from the ’60s and ’70s, which makes it the perfect addition to your home. Also, scalloped furniture will be used in interior decorating.
I’ve seen designers embracing organic shapes in the form of retro curved sofas, but this rounded sectional would be perfect for anyone wanting a little elbow room.

4. Alabaster Lighting Fixtures will be Every Decorators Dream
While we’re on kitchens, it is predicted that alabaster lighting will be the most popular kitchen table light fixture for 2023 and will also be a major interior design trend next year.
Alabaster lighting is becoming increasingly popular due to its unique, natural beauty. The translucent stone has a soft, warm glow when illuminated, making it an ideal material for lighting fixtures, such as pendant lights, table lamps, and ceiling fixtures.
Since alabaster lighting is often handmade, it can be molded into a various shapes and sizes, which allows for a great deal of creativity and customization and adds to its appeal.
I implore you to check out the work of internationally acclaimed designer Atelier Alain Ellouz, whose breathtaking alabaster work features everything from light fixtures to fully functional alabaster furniture.

5. Sustainable Home Decor is on the Rise
With the extended lead times for furniture lately and the climate crisis only getting worse, it’s no surprise that designers and consumers of all demographics will be turning toward more sustainable options for their home decor in 2023.
Another reason I think that sustainable furniture is a predicted interior design trend is because it is often made with higher-quality materials and construction methods, making it more durable and long-lasting. This means that it will not need to be replaced as often, which saves money and reduces waste.
Additionally, many people find sustainable furniture has a unique, natural beauty that cannot be replicated with mass-produced furniture.
According to this article from Forbes, one way to do this is by mixing antique or second-hand pieces with what you already have.
If thrifting isn’t your style, consider going green with pieces from ethically driven brands that make pieces from materials that are renewable or recycled.

6. Artisanal Goods are in; Farmhouse is Out
Moving along with the sustainability factor, I present to you one of the most popular interior design trends For 2023: handmade decor items.
These items are often unique and one-of-a-kind and are prized for their quality, attention to detail, and the personal touch that goes into their creation.
Artisanal goods can be used in various ways to add character and personality to home decor. Some examples of artisanal goods that can be used in home decor include:
- Handmade furniture: Artisanal furniture, such as tables, chairs, and bookshelves, can add a unique and personal touch to a space. These pieces are often made from natural materials, such as wood, and are finished by hand, resulting in a high-quality, one-of-a-kind product.
- Hand-woven textiles: Artisanal textiles, such as rugs, throws, and pillows, can add color, pattern, and texture to a room. These items are often made using traditional techniques, such as weaving or knitting, and can be found in various styles and materials.
- Pottery and ceramics: Handmade pottery and ceramics, such as vases, bowls, and mugs, can add a touch of color and personality to a space. These items are often made using traditional techniques which give them a timeless element.
- Artisanal home decor accessories: Other artisanal home decor items, such as candles, soaps, and home fragrances, can add a personal touch to a space. These items are often made using natural ingredients and traditional techniques and can be found in many styles and scents.
How cool would it be to have one of those custom-made hand chairs in your living room? With that item alone, you are hitting several of these interior design trends for 2023 simultaneously!

7. Green is EVERYWHERE Next Year
Although Pantone named Viva Magenta the color of the year for 2023, my money is on its complement: a beautiful sea green directly across from Viva Magenta on the color wheel.
In fact, Glidden named Vining Ivy its paint color of 2023, which serves up lush blue-green hues perfect for any room in your house. I predict this will be one of the big home decor color trends 2023.
But it doesn’t stop there; jade tile will be favored in bathroom renovations by many interior decorators for 2023.
